NPFL UPDATE: Rivers Utd Sign Five Players

Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) club, Rivers United have signed five new players to bolster their squad ahead of the second round of the campaign.

Striker John Odumegwu has joined from NPFL leaders, Plateau United while centre half, Shedrack Francis has teamed up with the Pride of Rivers from Ikorodu United.

Another centre half, Semiu Liadi has arrived at the Port Harcourt club from Akwa United while the duo of Ifeanyi Okoye (midfielder) and Ayo Saka (midfielder) joined the Caf Confederation Cup campaigners from Niger Tornadoes and Sunshine Stars respectively.

Technical manager of Rivers United FC, Stanley Eguma expressed satisfaction with the acquisitions in an exclusive chat with supersport.com.

“We are happy with the players who have joined us because we believe they can help us a lot for the remaining part of the season.

“We have not done too well in the (NPFL) this season and things will get tougher on the continent (where United have reached the group stage of the Caf Confederation Cup).

“It is important that we reinforce the squad and that is what we have done,” he said.

Rivers United will face SKE in the semifinals of the Rivers State FA Cup on Sunday before embarking on a trip to Tunis to face Club Africain in their first game in the group stage of the 2017 Caf Confederation Cup.
