NPFL UPDATE: Maikaba Officially Joins Akwa Utd

Coach Abdul Maikaba has joined Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side, Akwa United for the upcoming 2016/17 top-flight.

Maikaba guided Wikki Tourists to fetch a continental ticket, Caf Confederation Cup in the immediate past top-flight.

An official of the Uyo-based side, Uwem Ekoh said the former Enyimba coach is expected to endorse his contract papers in the next few days.

“The truth right now is that coach Abdul Maikaba has accepted to join us but he is yet to formally sign the contract documents.

“That is expected to be done in the coming days once he is satisfied with the terms contained in the contract papers.

“Maikaba met with the chairman as well as the management where personal terms were agreed and he was formally handed the contract papers for him to study and revert to the chairman.

“We hope he will turn in the papers latest on Friday so that he can sign almost immediately as well as unveiling.

“Maikaba is expected to resume training with the players on Monday to start preparation for the upcoming season.

“I do not know whether the proposed contract is for a year or two but that’s not an issue to the parties.

“We can say confidently and comfortably that Maikaba is our coach right now,” said Ekoh to supersport.com.

The former Kano Pillars coach had on Wednesday confirmed to supersport.com that he will be heading off to Uyo later in the day to tidy up his contract talk with Akwa United.

“I’m in Abuja right now (Wednesday) but hope to be in Uyo later in the day to conclude contract discussion with the management of Akwa United.

“Well, I’m positive that everything will go down well to enable me join the side for the upcoming season.”
