NPFL Suspension Is Bad For Football Development – Eguavoen

Former Super Eagles head coach Augustine Eguavoen has disclosed that the decision to place the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) on suspension is bad for football development in the country.

The LeaguManagement Company (LMC), custodian of the NPFL, had earlier this week announced the indefinite suspension of the league as a result of the ongoing crisis in the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

The league had gone on break last month to accommodate the just concluded FIFA World Cup tournament in Russia and was expected to resume by Wednesday, July 18 only for the LMC to announce its suspension some days before the restart.

In his reaction to the new development, Eguavoen, who led the Super Eagles to a third-place finish at the 2006 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) told the Guardian that: “Players need to be continuously active to be at their best.”

“The suspension of the League is not a good omen for a country.

“With the current crises in the NFF, there is no way football can develop.

“The issue every body need to focus on now is how to get things right after the Super Eagles early exit from the World Cup.” The former Super Eagles concluded on the matter.
