The 2016/17 Nigeria Professional Football League season enters Matchday 15 this weekend with a new league leader hoping to stay top of the pile for as long as they can.

Lagos-based side MFM FC climbed to the summit after a home win over Rivers United in a rescheduled Matchday 8 encounter with Rivers United in midweek and they will begin their journey as league leaders with a trip to one of the promoted sides Gombe United.

Fidelis Ikechukwu's team will hope that league top scorer Stephen Odey shakes off the knock he suffered in Wednesday's win ahead of Sunday's game at the Pantani Stadium.

Deposed league leaders, Plateau United will be keen to capitalize on any slip-up by MFM and return to the top when they host ABS in Jos. Kennedy Boboye's men already have a superior goals difference over the leaders and should MFM fail to win in Gombe, a win over ABS will take Plateau United to the top.

Former champions Kano Pillars have a pretty decent record in Umuahia and will hope to get a result at the Abia State capital when they take on Abia Warriors on Sunday but the star match of the weekend is expected to be at the UJ Esuene Stadium in Calabar where Enyimba will play hosts to Rivers United. Gbenga Ogunbote's Enyimba are without defeat in their last three games while United go into the game at the back of two losses in two different competitions.

Sunday's televised game will be at the Nest of Champions in Uyo where Akwa United will face FC Ifeanyiubah in a late kick-off. Abdu Maikaba's United have won their last four home games while Ifeanyiubah have lost all their away games this term, the worst record in the division - a record also shared with Gombe United and Wikki Tourists.

In Maiduguri, El-Kanemi Warriors will attempt to uphold their invincible home record when they host Lobi Stars as they continue to stay within the periphery of continental places while Shooting Stars who ended a seven-game winless streak on Wednesday will be guests to Nasarawa United in Lafia.

Bottom-of-the-table Remo Stars trade tackles with troubled Wikki Tourists in Sagamu with the homers hoping to move off the foot of the table depending on results in other venues while in Lokoja, Niger Tornadoes will entertain Sunshine Stars.

The weekend's final game will see Katsina United welcome Rangers to the Muhammad Dikko stadium in Katsina. A defeat for the faltering champions could see them sink as low as bottom spot on the league table although they have three games in hand.
