NPFL: Plateau Stay Top After Beating Niger Tornadoes

Plateau United extended their lead at the top of the Nigeria Professional Football League to six points following a 2-0 win against Niger Tornadoes on Sunday.

Kabiru Umar scored the curtain raiser in first half added time, while Philip Azango made the points safe by grabbing the second goal six minutes after the break.

It was Niger Tornadoes’ first loss in five games. Also on Sunday, substitute Kayode Olaniran scored a late equaliser as Shooting Stars rallied from a goal down to pick a 1-1 draw against Katsina United at the Muhammadou Dikko Stadium.

Sani Nasiru had put the hosts ahead from the spot three minutes before the half hour mark but Olaniran ensured the Oluyole Warriors returned to Ibadan with a share of the spoils by firing home a delightful goal.

At the Umuahia Township Stadium, Abia Warriors suffered their first home defeat of the campaign, going down to a 1-0 against El-kanemi Warriors.

Husseni Bala got the decisive goal on eight minutes. In Sagamu, Remo Stars’ poor run continued as the Sky Blue Stars were held to a 1-1 draw by Lobi Stars.

The hosts got off to a flying start when Victor Mbaoma opened scoring in the 14th minute. It was Mbaoma’s fourth goal of the campaign.

Lobi Stars who are now unbeaten in their last five games levelled scores through Anthony Okpotu in the 49th minute. The encounter between Nasarawa United and Sunshine Stars also ended in a 1-1 draw.

Olayinka Onaolapo put the Solid Miners in the 53rd minute, while substitute Sunday Oluwadare equalised for the visitors with his first touch of the game.

In the last game of the day, Gombe United and Akwa United played out a barren draw at the Pantani Stadium.
