Ghana international David Accam could not get to make his Major Soccer League debut with Chicago Fire as he was left out of their squad in their 2-0 opening day defeat at Los Angeles Galaxy on Saturday dawn.

Accam was expected to play his first game of the season as LA Galaxy host his Chicago Fire in LA.

Fire were able to hold Galaxy for a little over the opening hour but could not maintain their resilience as Jose Villarreal scored the opening goal for Bruce Arena's Galaxy before Tottenham Hotspur captain Robbie Keane added the second 8 minutes from time.

The reasons for Accam's exclusion from the Fire squad for the game is not yet known but it is suspected he had not gained match fitness after picking a slight knock during a pre-season tournament a fortnight ago.

Fire coach Frank Yallop could use the former Helsingborg IF star for their next league game which will be at home.

While Accam was left out of the Fire squad for the game, American-born Gyasi Zardes was in action for Galaxy and nearly scored in the opening half of the game, coming close twice.
