New Beginning: Finidi takes charge of Rivers United training session

Published on: 09 July 2024

Newly appointed Rivers United head coach, George Finidi, took charge of his first training session at the Garden City Sports Complex on Monday, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

The 53-year-old, who signed a two-year contract with an option for a third year, is looking to revitalize the team's fortunes after a disappointing eighth-place finish in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) last season.

Finidi recently walked away from his position as the head of the Super Eagles barely a month into his appointment.

The former Ajax and Real Betis winger, brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously managed two-time African champions Enyimba to a title win in the 2022/23 season.

The Prideo of Rivers on the official X platform shared with their fans the picture of their new gaffer with the caption “FINIDI GEORGE TAKES CHARGE! Our new Technical Manager leads 1st training session at Garden City Sports Complex!”

As Finidi begins his new tenure at Rivers United, Finidi will be seeking to replicate his success at Enyimba and restore the team to its former glory.
