Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has confessed his time with the Premier League side could be coming to an end, saying he’ll talk to other clubs about a move in January.
Mikel’s current contract with the Blues is set to expire at the end of the season and the Nigerian international is yet to feature in the Premier League for the side this campaign. The 29-year-old’s future at Chelsea appears pretty clear with Antonio Conte not naming the midfielder in his squad for Tuesday evening’s EFL Cup match with Leicester. The arrival of N’Golo Kante appears to have further hindered Mikel’s chances at Stamford Bridge and the player has now admitted he will look at leaving Chelsea when his contract expires in July. Mikel revealed he will take advantage of the rule that lets him talk to other clubs from January and will begin his search for his next team in the new year. Mikel told Goal: “When you have a year left, in January you are allowed to talk to other clubs and sign a pre-contract or have an agreement so, yes, I will talk to other clubs because you never know what is going to happen. “If it is going to be the Premier League there will be options. If it is China or some other places, we will see. One thing is for sure, I will make the best decision. “I’ve been here for a long, long time. I’ve spent 11 years of my life in this football club, it is my home. This season is the last at the club if my contract ends. I am quite relaxed about it, the future looks good.”
