Michy Batshuayi Wants to Join Spurs After Rejecting West Ham

"?Marseille striker Michy Batshuayi has turned down a move to West Ham in favour of a transfer to Tottenham, "?according to Squawka.

The Belgium international scored 17 Ligue 1 goals in 36 appearances this season, and looks set to leave Marseille after the European Championships.

And Spurs now look to be favourites to land the 22-year-old after he reportedly told the North London club that White Hart Lane was his preferred destination. West Ham have been strongly linked with Batshuayi since the transfer window opened, and were willing to match the £31m which Marseille are thought to be demanding, but that move now looks unlikely after he rejected an £80,000-a-week wage to the Hammers. Arsenal and Chelsea have also been tracking Batshuayi's progress and have been linked with moves for the striker.

Spurs look set to add more strikers to their squad this summer after being heavily reliant on Harry Kane during the season, with the Englishman being the only recognised striker in the senior squad. Both Vincent Janssen and Breel Embolo have been linked as possible additions to Maurichio Pochettino's side.

Batshuayi's wage demands could be a potential stumbling block however, and although Spurs have nearly finished negotiating a new £100,000-a-week contract for Harry Kane, they are thought to be unwilling to offer Batshuayi a similar deal. Hugo Lloris and Mousa Dembele are both paid £80,000-a-week, and are the highest paid players in the Tottenham squad.

Batshuayi is currently in France preparing for Belgium's opening game on Monday night against Italy, and is joined by Spurs players Mousa Dembele, Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen.
