Manchester United to Battle With Barcelona Over Sevilla Midfielder Grzegorz Krychowiak

Published on: 31 May 2016

"?Manchester United were dealt a major blow in their pursuit for Sevilla midfielder Grzegorz Krychowiak, after "?Barcelona announced their interest in the Polish international.

Krychowiak has been in fine form for Sevilla, making 42 appearances in all competitions last season and that form has linked him with a move to the Premier League in recent weeks.

Manchester United are looking to strengthen their midfield for next season and Krychowiak, who is a defensive minded midfielder, appears to be an attractive option for new Old Trafford manager Jose Mourinho given his favourable style of defensive play.

However Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo now claim that Catalan giants Barcelona have spoken with Krychowiak's representatives over a potential move to the Camp Nou. Arsenal have also been linked with a move for the player.

The report claims that Barcelona boss Luis Enrique is looking for cover for his other defensive midfielder Sergio Busquets, and Krychowiak is said to be his preferred option.

The Poland international is under contract at Sevilla until 2019, and has a release clause in his contract worth a reported £34m. Given the Manchester club's willingness to spend big in the transfer market in recent seasons, a bid for the player could very well be on the horizon.

Krychowiak signed for Sevilla from Reims in France back in 2014 and was part of the Spanish sides teams that won their last two Europa League titles under current coach Unai Emery.

The 26-year-old will also be a key component of Poland's 23-man squad for the European Championships in France this summer, where they will be competing in a group against Germany, Ukraine and Northern Ireland.
