Sources told ESPN FC last month that Derby do not have the option to buy Wilson outright after his loan ends.
After spending the second half of last season with Hull City, Liverpool felt Wilson would benefit from another spell in the Championship, with as many as 12 English clubs enquiring about his availability.
Wilson signed a new contract at Liverpool in the summer before linking up with Frank Lampard at Derby.
Given the current age of Liverpool's first-team forwards, sources say the Merseyside club believe Wilson is right on track with his development.
Wilson, who has just made just one first-team appearance for Liverpool, became Wales' youngest ever player in 2013 and has six international caps to his name.
