Man Utd Target Set to Undergo Medical With French Champions PSG

"?Manchester United look set to miss out on the signing of Portuguese winger Gonçalo Guedes, as "?reports in France suggest he is set to undergo a medical with reigning Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain.

A deal for the player is said to have been reached on Monday between Benfica and the French club, worth an estimated £30m. Guedes is understood to have been mulling over a move to PSG or United, but he appears set to snub a concrete offer from Old Trafford as he travels to Paris to undergo a medical ahead of the move.

The player's agent, Jorge Mendes, is said to have confirmed the deal with PSG Director of Football, Patrick Kluivert, and Guedes is expected to sign a four-and-a-half year deal that will keep him at the Parc Des Princes until the summer of the 2021.

The 20-year-old broke into the Benfica first team just two years ago and has gone on to make 52 appearances for the club.

He will leave the Estádio da Luz having scored eight goals in his brief time there, although Guedes could find his chances limited at PSG as the club see him as a back-up option for main striker Edison Cavani, who himself currently leads the Ligue 1 goalscoring charts with 20.

Whilst PSG will be pleased to have won the race to land Guedes, they will be unable to name him in their Champions League squad for the knockout stages of this season's competition as he featured in the groupstages for Benfica, and will subsequently be cup-tied for the remainder of the European campaign.
