Man City Boss Guardiola Eyeing Up 5-Year Stay at the Etihad After Reassessing Size of the Challenge

Pep Guardiola is keen to extend his current deal at Manchester City and may well remain at the club for another five years, according to reports in the "?Sun

The former Bayern Munich head coach arrived at the Etihad last summer with many expecting him to bring instant success to City. However, compared to his trophy-laden spells at Barcelona and Bayern, Guardiola is struggling to make an impression and currently sees his team outside of the top four.

Although the pressure continues to grow on the Spaniard in certain sections of the English press, City owner "?Sheikh Mansour is understood to have offered Guardiola his complete backing and will allow him the necessary time to make the club a consistent European heavyweight.

And having been told exactly that in a recent meeting with chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak, Guardiola is reportedly looking beyond his current contract which is set to expire in two-and-a-half years time.

The 46-year-old is understood to have reevaluated his initial plans for the rebuilding job at City and believes he may need as many as five years to completely transform the team and make them regular Premier League champions, not to mention Champions League winners.

Guardiola and his family are rumoured to be enjoying life in Manchester, so much so, that they are keen to bring architects over from Barcelona to help customise their apartment in the city-centre, as they prepare for a longer stay in England than initially anticipated.

Despite spending upwards of £169m during last summer's transfer window, the City manager is set to embark on another spending spree at the end of the season and is prepared to sell the likes of Samir Nasri, Joe Hart and Wilfried Bony in order to cut the club's wage bill.

It seems that he will be given as much time and money as he sees fit, to finally make the club a consistent force in football and prove to the doubters that he is one of the best managers in the game.
