The Ghana international completed his transfer on Monday by signing a five-year deal contract.

Fery stated: "The sale of Jordan Ayew was not really expected this season, and I regret his departure and especially the circumstances in which it occurred.

"However, Jordan is a talented young player and someone also endearing. It was important for FC Lorient to be respected; we are happy to have finally found agreement with Aston Villa for the transfer, a record for FCL.

"Jordan Ayew had to make significant financial efforts to realize his dream to play in the Premier League. I thank him for what he brought to the club and wish him success in his new colors."

Ayew made his debut on Tuesday night as a second half substitute in their 2-2 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers.
