Liverpool Youngster Connor Randall Linked With Loan Move to Championship Side Barnsley

Championship side Barnsley have made an enquiry into the possible loan signing of Liverpool defender Connor Randall.

According to the "?Daily Mail, Barnsley are keen to replace teenager James Bree, who is set to move to league rivals Aston Villa. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has told Randall he is free to leave Anfield on loan in order to gain first team experience.

Preston North End were reportedly interested in signing the 21-year-old last summer, but were unsuccessful in their pursuit of the right-back. Randall made seven appearances for the Reds last season, including three Premier League appearances, but his opportunities have been limited this campaign due to the emergence of Trent Alexander-Arnold as Nathaniel Clyne's backup option.

Randall lacks the attacking talent of either Clyne or Alexander-Arnold, but a loan move would represent the chance for the academy product to gain some much needed game time and avoid stagnating in the reserve format of the Premier League.

Randall could make the move on loan before the end of the month, and the signing would help to strengthen Barnsley's promotion attempt. The Tykes are currently four points behind sixth placed side Sheffield Wednesday with the season past the halfway point.

Should the loan move go ahead, the right-back would become the latest Liverpool player to leave Anfield temporarily this month. Attacking midfielder Lazar Markovic has joined Hull City, teenager Pedro Chirivella has departed for Dutch club Go Ahead Eagles, while American youngster Brooks Lennon is set to join MLS side Real Salt Lake.
