On loan Liverpool Nigerian forward Taiwo Awoniyi ended a six game barren run in front of goal for Gent with a brace in their 4-2 cup win over Excelsior Virton ?in the Beker Van Belgie.

Awoniyi wasted no time in giving his team an early lead but Virton went into the break level at 1-1, a lead which Gent regained three minutes after the half hour mark but soon lost it again in the 78th minute.

Six minutes before the end of the game, Awoniyi whose last goal for the club came on the 16th of August against Polish side Jagiellonia Bialystok in the qualifiers of the Europa League struck again to restore his team lead.
