Liverpool Legend Steven Gerrard Claims Jurgen Klopp Would Have Been the 'Perfect Manager' for Him

Published on: 31 December 2016

"?Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has said he would have loved to play under current Reds manager Jurgen Klopp.

Gerrard left Liverpool in 2015, months before Klopp took over in October, succeeding Brendan Rodgers. The former Borussia Dortmund manager has proved to be a hit on Merseyside, with the Reds currently second in the Premier League.

Speaking on BT Sport as quoted by "?the Mirror, Gerrard claimed the way he played during his heyday would have aligned well with Klopp's system.

"The way I played the game, a lot of passion - heavy metal he calls it - I think he would be perfect for me the way I play the game."

Gerrard is widely seen as one of Liverpool's greatest ever players, having experienced great success during his career. The 36-year-old won the Champions League, the UEFA Cup, two FA Cup's and three League Cup's, scoring 191 goals in 748 appearances in all competitions.

The former England international has previously only worked with Klopp when allowed to train with Liverpool during the MLS' off season, but has been linked with a role at Anfield in a coaching capacity ever since he retired as a player.

Liverpool would go on to beat Manchester City during the match Gerrard was covering, with Georginio Wijnaldum heading home to keep Liverpool in touching distance of Premier League leaders Chelsea. Klopp's side have now won four league matches in a row, and will hope to continue their great recent form when they travel to Sunderland on Monday.
