James Pearce of the Liverpool Echo has claimed that Emre Can isn't necessarily about to leave the club despite stalling on a new deal - but insisted that the player's future at Anfield is uncertain.

In a online "?Q&A article published by Joe Rimmer, Liverpool fans on social media were invited to ask the team questions relating to the current on goings at the club.

One such topic was the Can saga, and one Twitter user asked the reporter what the situation was regarding his future at the club.

@JoeRimmer88 For James, with no noise on Emre Can resigning with 18 months left on his contract, is it safe to assume he's off?

Pearce replied: "No, I wouldn't say Emre Can is definitely off but his future is certainly up in the air. He has been stalling over a new contract and clearly believes he's worth more than what Liverpool are offering.

"Hopefully it will be sorted by the end of the season. If he doesn't sign then it's likely he will be sold because I can't see Liverpool letting him enter the final year of his current contract."

Can has been linked with Juventus in recent weeks and is behind Jordan Henderson, Gini Wijnaldum and Adam Lallana in the pecking order.

According to various reports in Italy, the Old Lady have recently sent scouts to watch the German international and could launch a summer bid to sign the 23-year-old.
