"?Liverpool look set to offer defender Joe Gomez a new five-year-deal with the club.

"?The Liverpool Echo are reporting that the club are in advanced talks with the 19-year-old over the new deal that would see him committed to Anfield until the year 2022.

It is understood that manager Jurgen Klopp has been the main force behind offering the England under-19 international a new deal, after he has impressed since returning from a knee injury in November.

Gomez, who has been at Liverpool since 2014 following a £3.5m switch from Charlton, recently made his comeback after a year out against Plymouth in the FA Cup.

Having also played in the replay of the third round fixture, Gomez is expected to play in the fourth round tie against Wolves this weekend.

There was apparent interest from Championship clubs wanting to take the defender on loan but Klopp wants to keep Gomez at the club and sees him as a big part of the club's future.

Failure to beat Southampton in the EFL Cup semi-finals sees Klopp's side only left in two competitions this season, but based on recent results, both trophies could be at risk.

Liverpool currently sit fourth in the Premier League table and are going through quite a rough patch of form.

With a Premier League title challenge looking at risk, the Reds could look to the FA Cup as their biggest chance of silverware this season.
