Leicester Offer Danny Simpson Improved Contract After Rejecting Deadline Day Bid From West Ham

Champions Leicester City rejected a £5m deadline day bid for Danny Simpson from West Ham and are set to offer him an improved contract.

An integral part of their Premier League winning defence, Simpson is in the final year of his contract but the Foxes are preparing to offer him a bumper deal that would put him among some of the squad's highest earners.

According to the Mirror, his contract situation had put several teams on alert and Slaven Bilic made a big effort to lure the Leicester man to the Olympic Stadium but instead had to turn his attention to former Liverpool and World Cup winner Alvaro Arbeloa.

Star duo Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez have signed new deal this summer to put them on £100,000-a-week and warn off any potential suitors from Europe's top table.

Teammates Kasper Schmeichel, Danny Drinkwater, Andy King and Wes Morgan have all signed long-term contracts that will keep them at the King Power Stadium for the foreseeable future.

Simpson joined the Foxes in 2014 from QPR and despite struggling for first-team football in his first year, emerged as a pivotal figure down the flanks for them in last year's fairy tale title success.

The Champions have experienced an indifferent start to their title defence after picking up only one point from their opening two games that included an opening day defeat to newly promoted Hull City. They did get their first win of the season on Saturday however with a 2-1 success at home to Swansea City.
