Kotoko chief Opoku Nti rules out move for striker Emmanuel Clottey
Emmanuel Clottey on the hunt for a new club to save career

Asante Kotoko’s General Manager Opoku Nti has cast doubts on the prospect of signing Emmanuel Clottey due to the striker’s uncertain status.

The 27-year-old is battling a legal case with FIFA over whether he is a free agent.

Rumours are rife the former Berekum Chelsea hitman will be joining Kotoko ahead of their beckoning domestic and continental campaigns.

Clottey is in desperate need of a club to help re-propel his football career following failed stints at Esperance and Al Dhafra.

A move to Kotoko appears to be the best option for the Ghana striker but the club’s General Manager has doubts over whether the switch will happen.

“I honestly don’t know about Emmanuel Clottey,” Nti told MTNFootball.com.

“He has an issue with FIFA he is dealing with and we are yet to get word on the status of that case.

“We don’t want to run into any legal issues pending the finalization of Clottey’s case at FIFA and therefore I don’t think we will be able to sign and register him.”

Clottey played for Ghana at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations following an impressive campaign with Berekum Chelsea in the CAF Champions League where he emerged top scorer with 12 goals.
