Nigerian forward Samuel Kalu scored and provided an assist as Gent returned to winning ways in their 2-1 away win against Genk in the Belgian top flight on Sunday.

The goal was Kalu’s sixth in 24 league appearances for Gent this season. Nigerians stars Moses Simon and Anderson Esiti were also in action for Gent.

Kalu scored the second goal in the 77th minute to help Gent to the win following last weekend’s 3-2 home loss to Oostende.

He also provided the assist for Gent’s first goal scored by Burger Verstraete on 11 minutes.

In another game in the Belgian top flight on Sunday, Joseph Akpala scored for Oostende but it was not enough as they threw away a 2-0 lead to lose 3-2 to Uche Agbo’s Standard Liege.

Akpala doubled Oostende’s lead in the 45th minute after providing the assist for their opening goal.

Agbo was introduced with 15 minutes remaining in the game.

The defeat ended Oostende’s five-game unbeaten run (three wins and two draws).
