Torino midfielder Joel Obi who was recently handed a recall to the senior national team of Nigeria is facing a fitness battle to be fit for the S?uper Eagles friendly games in March against Poland and Serbia respectively.
Obi was handed a recall by coach Gernot Rohr, four years after he last played for Nigeria, thanks to his dazzling performances for Serie A side Torino, where he has emerged as one of the most important players of the team.
Ever present this season and with two goals to his name from his position as a deep lying play maker ?. The 26 year old former Inter Milan midfielder appears to have buried the injury demons that have slowed down his progress in previous seasons.
However, he has suffered another blow two weeks to Nigeria’s game as he was conspicuously missing from Torino’s squad for their game against Roma with reports indicating that he is down with an injury that lead to his substitution in their previous game.
The length of time he will be away is not known yet, but his long history with injuries and fitness issues means he is a doubt to make it for the games, which according to coach Rohr could be the final chance for new players called up to his name to make their mark before he names his squad for the World Cup 2018 in Russia.
