Henry Nwosu has said Nigeria coach, Gernot Rohr, needs to work on the Super Eagles’ defence if the team are to do well in the Russia 2018 World Cup qualifiers.

The Eagles began their 2018 World Cup qualifiers with a 2-1 win over Zambia at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, Ndola on Sunday,  with goals from Kelechi Iheanacho and Alex Iwobi.

Former Nigeria midfielder Nwosu, who praised the team for getting their first away victory over Zambia since 1973, told our correspondent on Monday that Rohr  should work on the team’s defence ahead of their  qualifier against Algeria in Uyo on November 12.

“The team did well. It is their best performance in a long while and they should be commended for  the victory,” Nwosu said.

“However, the coach should work  on the defence,   especially the right back. The attack is a good one with  Iwobi and Iheanacho doing very well. But when you score goals against a team with a very good defence and your own defence is not too strong, you may end up losing the match.

“Rohr should get the right players to strengthen the defence so that in their next match the team can have an advantage over their opponent.”

The former Gateway  coach added, “The coach’s tactics worked in that match but I will advise him to ensure that he brings on Musa earlier than he did in the Zambia match. When the team gets under pressure from their opponents, the pace of a player like Musa will help ease the pressure and probably produce another goal for the team.”
