The Super Eagles winger only completed his move from Serie A side Atalanta a few days earlier during the winter transfer window, but head coach Diego Simeone wasted no time handing him a starting role for the crucial knockout encounter. Lookman justified that faith with a standout performance.

The 26-year-old netted Atlético’s third goal in the 37th minute after latching onto a counter-attacking pass, skillfully beating two defenders inside the box before firing past the goalkeeper. He later turned provider in the 67th minute, setting up Antoine Griezmann for the fourth goal of the night.

Atlético Madrid had earlier taken control of the contest through David Hancko’s 12th-minute opener, before Giuliano Simeone doubled the advantage on the half-hour mark. Thiago Almada completed the rout with the fifth goal seven minutes from time.

Following the convincing win, Atlético Madrid have now booked their place in the semi-finals of the competition, where it could face Barcelona, Real Sociedad, or Athletic Bilbao.

The semi-final draw is scheduled to take place on Friday, February 6, 2026, at the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) headquarters. The first-leg matches will be played in February 2026, with the return fixtures set for March 2026.
