Chelle to Announce Final Super Eagles Squad on Friday Ahead of World Cup Playoffs in Morocco
Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle is set to unveil his final squad list for the 2026 FIFA World Cup African playoffs on Friday, just before the team’s advance delegation departs for Morocco on Saturday, reports Nigeriasoccernet.com.
A top Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) official, who spoke with The Guardian, confirmed that invitation letters have already been dispatched to players’ clubs, with all invited players expected to report directly to camp in Morocco by Monday.
“The players will move straight to Morocco because it’s closer to Europe than Nigeria, which makes logistics easier,” the official explained.
“Some new faces will be making their debut, while a few others are returning after some time away.”
According to the official, the coaching crew carefully reviewed several options before finalizing the roster.
“For instance, in attack, over 10 players were under consideration, but only four could be picked. Those are Victor Osimhen, Akor Adams, Tolu Arokodare, and Paul Onuachu, who’s in fine scoring form in Turkey,” he revealed.
“Also, midfielder Ebenezer Akinsanmiro, currently on loan at Pisa from Inter Milan, is among the new inclusions.”
Goalkeeper Maduka Okoye makes a return to the national team setup, while Brentford defender Michael Kayode has been excluded for now as he remains undecided on his international future between Nigeria and Italy.
The Super Eagles will take on Gabon in their opening playoff match on November 13 in Morocco. Should they progress, they will face the winner between Cameroon and DR Congo on November 16, with a spot in the inter-confederation playoff — and ultimately, a ticket to the 2026 FIFA World Cup — at stake.
With the much-anticipated squad announcement just days away, excitement is building among fans eager to see how Chelle will shape his team for one of Nigeria’s most crucial qualification campaigns in recent years.
