Super Falcons defender, Faith Ikidi has been voted as the best player of 2017 by her Swedish club, Pitea IF. It is the third time the Nigeria defender will be picking the honour after previously winning it in 2011 and 2015.
The former Bayelsa Queens player, who was part of the Falcons’ squad that won last year’s Africa Women Nations Cup in Cameroon, recently penned a new two-year deal with Pitea.
Ikidi who was recently nominated for the 2017 Best Defender award in the Swedish women’s league and has played every single league match for Piteå for three seasons straight.
The 30-year-old, who joined Piteå in 2011, was first nominated for the Best Defender award in 2015, which she went on to win.
Ikidi reached the historic 200th Damallsvenskan match, the most by an African player earlier this year, after bagging both the league and the cup titles to add to her international triumphs.
“I just received a surprise award in training this evening, player of the year for the third time 2011, 2015 and 2017,” revealed Ikidi, who joined Piteå from Swedish Women’s Super League side, Linköping
