Iheanacho, Iwobi Nominated For UEFA Golden Boy Award

Published on: 30 September 2016

Super Eagles duo of Kelechi Iheanacho and Alex Iwobi has been nominated for this year's edition of the Uefa Golden Boy award. Iheanacho was a revelation for Manchester City last season, scoring 10 goals and making few assists despite coming on from the bench in most of the games he played in the Premier League. He has also continued from that fine form this current season under manager, Pep Guardiola, netting vital goals in the UEFA Champions League and the Premier League.

In the same vein, Arsenal midfielder, Iwobi is gradually becoming a key figure in coach Arsene Wenger's side as his brilliant performance against Paris Saints Germaine in match day One fixture of the Champions League and against Chelsea in the Premier League has marked the Nigerian international for the top.

They will have to contend with 38 other youngsters that have been shortlisted for the award to recognise the best player under the age of 21. Names such as Dele Alli, Marko Grujic, Lucas Hernandez, Kingsley Coman, Marcus Rashford, Moussa Dembele, Youri Tielemans, Leroy Sane, Renato Sanches, Ousmane Dembele and Gabriel Barbosa among others, will battle for the big prize.

The Golden Boy award, which began in 2003, is always decided by a panel of journalists.
