Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has ruled out any thoughts of joining Cosmin Olariou at Al Ahli despite maintaining good relations with his former coach.

The Romanian trainer became famous for signing Gyan from Sunderland to Al Ain in 2011.

The Black Stars captain has since been a massive hit in the UAE – emerging top scorer in the domestic league since his arrival.

There have been a sustained social media campaign by Al Ahli fans to woo the prolific striker into crossing carpets to join his former coach – under who Gyan won two successive league titles at Al Ain.

But the former Sunderland, Rennes and Udinese man insists he will not leave Al Ain where he is adored by the fans for an opportunity to join up with his friend Cosmin Olariou.

“I am loved by the fans in Al Ain, the love they got for me is incredible and I do appreciate that,” he told GHANAsoccernet.com.

“I have a good relationship with Cosmin [Olariou], he is the one who brought me to the UAE and he is a good man.

“When he left he is my friend, he is still my friend.

“Definitely when you are performing, there will be clubs interested.

“But for now I am happy where I am. It will depend on my club – if the offer is big and they want me to go, I will have no choice.

“But for now I remain with Al Ain.”
