Gold Cup: Lobi Hold Enyimba While MFM Annihilate Sunshine

Enyimba and Lobi Stars played out a 1-1 draw in their Group B fixture of the Gold Cup pre- season tournament in Ijebu Ode today.

 The game presented an opportunity for new Enyimba head coach, Gbenga Ogunbote to assess his team ahead of the new season with new arrivals, Ibrahim Salawu and Eric Frimpong impressing.

The People's Elephant had   two opportunities to take the lead early in the game through  Salawu and Christian Obiozor, but were unable to find a way past Lobi Stars goalkeeper, Anibo Emmanuel.

Anthony Okpotu came close to scoring the opener for Lobi Stars in the 32nd minute but he fluffed the opportunity.

Ogunbote threw in the likes of Andrew Abalogu  , Dare Ojo and Olufemi Oladapo in the second half but they were still unable to find a way past Godwin Uwa's men.

In the end, both sides had to settle for a point each as they were unable to find the winner.

 In the day's other fixture, MFM FC defeated Sunshine Stars 3-0 to move top of Group A.

Gabriel Onaah broke the deadlock in the 62nd minute, while substitutes Isah Akor and Alashe Sherif added two more goals for the Olukoya Boys.

Earlier in the day, Nigeria Nationwide League side, FC Ebedei beat Niger Tornadoes in the tournament's opening fixture.
