Giuseppe Rossi took in Genoa's 1-0 Coppa Italia win over Crotone on Thursday night as he prepares to complete his return to Serie A by joining Il Grifone.
Rossi, who has been without a club since being released by Celta Vigo in the summer, posted a tweet of him departing New York's Newark airport on Wednesday, with the hashtag #comeback following the words "next stop Serie A."
He reportedly underwent the first in what are expected to be a series of in-depth medical examinations in Genoa on Thursday before taking his place in the stands at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris to watch his future teammates set up a round-of-16 trip to Juventus by beating Serie A rivals Crotone.
His injury history, with four cruciate ligament tears -- the last of which sidelined him for six months in April-- means the Serie A club will take a thorough look at his condition before offering a contract.

Rossi has been recovering from his latest injury in his native New Jersey while searching for a new club.
Genoa put in that call earlier this week with their new coach Davide Ballardini keen to strengthen the attack of a team who have scored just 12 goals in 14 Serie A games this season.
The 30-year-old, who recently said he had not given up hope of adding to his 29 caps for Italy, is expected to put pen to paper on a contract with the club this weekend.
He has scored 25 goals in 53 Serie A appearances for Fiorentina and Parma, with 64 in 170 La Liga outings for Villarreal, Levante and Celta Vigo.
