French Star's Man Utd Future Plunged Into Doubt as Mourinho Remains Unhappy With Current Form

"?Anthony Martial's future at Manchester United has been cast into doubt after reports suggested Jose Mourinho was unhappy with the forward's form this season.

"?Sky Sports alleges that the Portuguese boss has become frustrated with Martial's performances when given opportunities to shine in United's starting lineup, with his sub-par display against Liverpool at Old Trafford of particular grievance to Mourinho.

Martial, though, is said to be happily settled at United, despite the criticism he received from his manager, and is not seeking to leave the club.

The 21-year-old was absent from the matchday squad for Thursday's EFL Cup semi-final second leg defeat to Hull City and, when asked if Martial had been left disappointed about missing out against the Tigers, Mourinho gave the question short shrift before hinting that he would play against Wigan in Sunday's FA Cup fourth round tie.

He told the "?Guardian: "I don't know (if he was disappointed). I don't speak with the players about how they take it. He will play Sunday and, if Sunday he plays magnificent, he will play against Hull City [in the league] in the next match. It's simple."?

Martial had been the subject of interest from La Liga side Sevilla earlier in January as speculation mounted about his future with the 20-time English top flight champions, but United refused to allow the France international to leave on a temporary basis.

He prob wasn't even at KCOM tonight but #MUFC fans still belted out @AnthonyMartial chant with gusto. Hope he listens to that, not his agent

The ex-Monaco youth prodigy must contend for a starting berth alongside the likes of Juan Mata, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard under Mourinho but, despite 13 of his 21 appearances this term coming from the start, Martial has seen his involvement in the first-team reduced significantly over the past few weeks.

Martial became the most expensive teenager in football history when he moved to United in the summer of 2015 for an initial fee of £36m.

The forward enjoyed a standout maiden campaign with the Red Devils last season as he notched 20 goals in 56 appearances, but has struggled to impress Mourinho after the ex-Chelsea boss took over from Louis van Gaal in the summer.
