Feyenoord's Ghanaian attacker Elvis Manu has undergone surgery on the groin injury that has curtailed during the first round of the Dutch Eredivisie. 

The 21-year-old was told he needed the procedure after suffering a setback in his recovery from the problem that has kept him out for some few weeks in November and early December.

Manu posted a picture of himself on Instagram, showing himself in the hospital bed and writing: "[I had] [my] operation today, [I want to] thank you guys, for all the support that you've showed and still showing hope to be back soon! LOVEEE!!".

Manu had spent the last couple of weeks back in the Netherlands and did not travel with the rest of the Feyenoord squad for their mid-season preparations in Qatar.

This means he will miss the opening games of the second round of the Dutch Eredivisie season which already started on Friday.

Feyenoord will re-open their campaign with a home tie against FC Twente at the Stadion Feijenoord.

Manu, who is on Ghana's radar as they seek to complete a nationality switch at FIFA to enable him play for the West African country, has played 15 league games for Feyenoord this season has netted three times and provided three assists.
