Al Wahda cancelled signing of the right-back, who excelled at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations and 2014 World Cup, on Thursday following a delay from his current employer, Esperance.

The Tunisian giants are refusing to reach an agreement with Al Wahda over the terms and conditions of the transfer even though the player has reached an agreement for his personal terms.

The defender, 28, had arrived in the UAE on Wednesday and completed the medical pending the move.

But according to an official of the Arabian Gulf League club, they had to drop the idea as they did not receive any communication from the Tunisian club.

“We sent them reminders and after three days cancelled the deal because we didn’t receive an answer,” said the official.

Afful is already unhappy over the way he has been treated by the Tunisian side who have turned down several lucrative moves for the player in Europe and the Arab world.

The decision not to reach an agreement with the team over Afful could lead the youngster into the decision of leaving the club.

Meanwhile Al Wahda are seeking Adil Hermach, the Moroccan midfielder, as the likely player to replace Afful.
