Sunshine Stars are reportedly on the verge of signing Osun United coach Duke Udi as their new manager.
The post became vacant following the sudden resignation of former Super Eagles coach Austine Eguavoen recently.
Our correspondent learnt on Sunday that the Ondo State Football Agency had concluded contract negotiations with former Nigeria midfielder Udi to take over the reins at the Akure Premier League side, who are currently battling for survival.
According to the source, Udi might be unveiled this week.
He said, “The ODSFA decided to go for Duke Udi after Eguavoen left. He was expected to come to Akure to put pen to paper for Sunshine on Sunday but he said he wanted to pick up one or two things in Osogbo. Hopefully he will be unveiled this week.”
The source explained that the new coach had been given the task of saving the side from relegation.
However, spokesman for Sunshine Chris Okunuwa said he was not aware of such a development.
“I don’t have any information on that,” Okunuwa said.
Sunshine were recently banished to Ijebu Ode to play their home games behind closed doors by the League Management Company following the unruly behaviour of their supporters during their match against Plateau United at the Akure Stadium.
They defeated Gombe United 2-1 in their first game at the Dipo Dina Stadium in Ijebu Ode on Sunday.
