Dolphins defender Zikiye backs Super Eagles to win 2016 CHAN
Dolphins FC defender Jonathan Zikiye says he is confident the Super Eagles will do well at the fourth Caf African Nations Championship in Rwanda next month.
Nigeria begin their Chan 2016 campaign against the Mena of Niger on January 18 for their first game in Group C that also has Tunisia and Guinea.
The team will depart for Pretoria, South Africa where they are expected to camp before moving to Rwanda for the tournament.
Zikiye feels the team have enough to do better than they did at the last edition in South Africa in 2013.
“I’m positive about them making a good impact in Rwanda come January. I have confidence in the squad that coach Sunday Oliseh has chosen,” he told supersport.com.
“I haven’t seen them train but I know a lot of the players personally and I must say they are a good bunch because I have played against them.
“They can stand any opposition that come their way, I’m sure of that.
The left-back, who did not make the cut for the team, says they have all his support and he will be cheering the team on when the tournament starts.
“Of course every player wants to play for his country and I’m no different,” Zikiye said when asked how he feels being left out.
“Everyone cannot play at the same time. I will wait for my time but I will also be cheering for the boys to go get us the title.
“I’m sure they will do us proud.”
