The former loan side of fast rising Nigerian goalkepper David Nwokolor has confirmed that the shot stopper has been called up to the Nigeria senior national team.

In a message posted on their official facebook wall, NK Istra where Nwokolor spent last season on loan congratulated the 20 year old on his invitation to the Nigeria senior national team.

Nwokolor is expected to be given a chance to fight for the number one spot of the team during the two friendly games lined up for the team, in the first quarter of next year.

Presently out on loan to Bosnian side Vitez from Croatian side HNK Rijeka, his performances have earned him the title of ” African Buffon”, with the press claiming he reminds them of legendary Italian shot stopper Gianluigi Buffon.

So far he has kept six clean sheet in the 11 games he has been between the sticks for Vitez, and aside Vincent Enyeama at Lille of France and Dele Aiyenugba of Hapoel Ashkelon of Israel, he is the only Nigerian goalkepper playing regularly for a top European side.
