Aba(Abia) – The rebuilding of Enyimba FC Stadium in Aba will be completed in June, Mr Ebi Egbe, Director of the contracting firm handling the project, said on Tuesday.

Egbe gave the assurance in an interview in Aba. He said that the company had received firm commitment from the Abia Government for the release of outstanding funds with which to complete the job.

Egbe added that the state Commissioner for Sports, Mr Chinwe Nwanganga, had promised to facilitate release of the money in the first week of June. The contractor assured that the team would play its June 28 African champions cup match against Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa in the stadium, if the government release the money.

Meanwhile, Emmanuel Anyanwu, a former Enyimba player, urged the state government to complete the work on the stadium to enable the team play its home matches. He said playing all their matches away had affected the team’s performances. “We have not been happy because we have been playing away and it is not helping us to get the desired results. “We need the stadium now, especially to enable us go far at the ongoing Champions League competition. “Even our fans have been missing us. “I am pleading that the government should help finish the work so that we can return to the stadium before our next champions league match,” he said.
