Chelsea Defender Baba Rahman Close to Schalke Move After Undergoing Medical

Published on: 31 July 2016

Baba Rahman is about to end his Chelsea nightmare after undergoing a medical at German side Schalke.

The 22-year-old, who signed for the Blues from Augsburg only a summer ago, is expected to join the Bundesliga club on a season-long loan "? according to "?Sky Sports.

Rahman was brought in for over £17m to provide cover for Chelsea's first-choice left-back Cesar Azpilicueta after Filipe Luis' departure back to Atletico Madrid.

However, the Ghana international failed to make an impression when called upon in the 23 appearances he made last season and is now set to leave Stamford Bridge.

It was earlier suggested that new manager Antonio Conte had first-team plans for Rahman, but the former Augsburg defender has barely featured for the Italian coach in pre-season, with 19-year-old Ola Aina joining Azpilicueta as the club's full-back pairing during the absence of Branislav Ivanovic.

Chelsea are already light in that area of the pitch and in the light of Rahman's impending departure, the 2015 Premier League champions are expected to make a move for PSV

Eindhoven full-back Santiago Arias, according to "?MailOnline

The Blues have so far strengthened their attack and midfield by signing Michy Batshuayi and N'Golo Kante respectively, but their defence still remains an issue.

Along with the likely arrival of another full-back, Conte also wants to bring in another centre-half to improve his overall defensive options.

Napoli's Kalidou Koulibaly is Conte's primary target after Juventus and Roma's refusal to negotiate deals for Leonardo Bonucci and Kostas Manolas.
