Arsenal Set to Make Summer Bid for Atletico Madrid Star Yannick Carrasco

"?Arsenal are set to bid for Atletico Madrid winger Yannick Carrasco, according to the Daily Star, with Atleti boss Diego Simeone ready to listen to offers in the region of £15m-£19m. "?

"?"?The 22-year-old changed the course of the match when he came off the bench in Saturday's Champions League final, capping an adventurous performance by scoring Atletico Madrid's equalising goal, to cancel out Sergio Ramos' first-half strike.

Although Atleti ended up losing the final on penalties, Carrasco's display clearly caught the eye of Arsene Wenger, who is looking to improve his Arsenal squad in the wake of another disappointing season.

Carrasco changed the game. Agree with Rio Ferdinand. @CarrascoY21"

However, Saturday's showpiece was not the first time that the young Belgian will have caught Wenger's attention.

Carrasco, then at former club Monaco, tore apart Wenger's Arsenal side in the Champions League last sixteen last season, as part of a front-line that included Anthony Martial, now of Manchester United. The 3-1 victory at The Emirates sparked perhaps the most intense criticism of the 66-year-old's managerial reign.

Wenger's critics may also ask why he did not do more to prevent Carrasco moving to Atletico last summer, if he is interested in the player now.

Despite not being a regular starter in his debut season at Atletico Madrid, Carrasco has made Belgium manager Marc Wilmots' 23-man squad for the forthcoming European Championships.

A poor season from recently-deposed PFA Player of the Year Eden Hazard at Chelsea has opened the door to the possibility that the 22-year-old may secure a starting birth at Euro 2016.

An impressive tournament would surely see more of Europe's elite clubs make a move for the winger, so Arsenal fans will be hoping that Wenger acts on his reported interest quickly, to avoid Carrasco becoming the latest in a long list of players that the Frenchman has missed out on in the transfer market.
