Antonio Conte Speaks With Bayern Munich Star Over Possible £56m Summer Move to Chelsea

Published on: 26 January 2017

"?Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has spoken with Bayern Munich midfielder Arturo Vidal to gauge the Chilean's interest in moving to Stamford Bridge at the end of the season, according to Chilean paper El Mercurio.

29-year-old Vidal knows Conte extremely well from their time together at Juventus - winning three Serie A titles - and it's been reported for several weeks that the Italian is looking to reunite with the energetic midfielder. Chelsea have even given the green light to Conte to pursue the player over the next few months.

Conte is keen to beef up his options in midfield and while he is unlikely do so before the end of the transfer window, Vidal is seen as a long term target. Current Blues midfielder Cesc Fabregas is attracting interest from a number of other clubs, and while he remains at Stamford Bridge at the moment, it is believed he could move on if the right offer comes in.

The report also claims that Vidal - while it's not confirmed whether a move to Chelsea would interest him - is currently undertaking English lessons; perhaps a sign that a switch to London is on the menu. Bayern Munich however are looking to secure more than £50m in exchange for the dynamic midfielder, despite his age.

Conte has made no secret of his desire to work with Vidal again in the past, saying last year that it's a big desire of his to coach the player again at some point.

He said: "Arturo Vidal said he'd take me to war with him? I'd take Vidal too. He's an amazing player. I must admit at Juve, I found him hard to fit in.

"He has extraordinary physical and technical attributes, if I get to coach him a little more it'd be fantastic. I want him on all my teams."
