Andre Ayew admits the absence of star striker Asamoah Gyan affected the team but insists they must shoulder responsibility for their opening defeat to Senegal.
The Black Stars suffered a painful 2-1 defeat to the Terranga Lions in an electrifying Africa Cup of Nations group C opener in Mongomo on Monday.
The Black Stars were torn apart by a resilient Senegalese side, with coach Avram Grant admitting qualification to the knockout phase had been made difficult.
Ayew, who was handed the captain’s armband in the absence of the influential striker, says he was solely missed.
"Of course, he is our leader and we missed him, but we were determined to win but, of course, that was not how the story ended in this game,” he said
“We are not giving up. If our captain returns in time for the remaining matches, all the better but we will try to get the job well done and keep the dream on course if that does not happen.”
