Returning to the team after a mild bout of Malaria ruled him out of the opening round, Ghana’s Asamoah Gyan proved to be the difference between the teams as the Black Stars triumphed over Algeria.

Ghana defeated the highly rated Fennec Foxes 1-0 in their second Group C clash at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

The veteran striker put in a tireless performance up front for Ghana that looked set to go unrewarded, as he was mostly unable to escape the clutches of Algeria’s excellent Carl Medjani.

However, two minutes into added time the Black Stars skipper chased down a hopeful long ball out of defence, held off Medjani and was able to beat goalkeeper Rais Mbolhi with a shot from a tight angle.

It’s a goal that has blown Group C wide open and given Ghana genuine hope that they can progress to the quarterfinals, having lost their opening match to Senegal earlier in the week.
